I made these pool gates for a residence in Alexandria, VA. All of the metal was hand textured. The joints in this gate include mortise and tenons; slit and drifted holes; collars and forge welds. The upper panels are held in with pin rivets.

The sun has an inner circle that has eight slit and drifted holes. The rays are forge welded and drawn to a point at the ends. The rays attach to the inner circle with an old fashioned cotter key type tab that is bent over on the inside securing them in place.

The moon was forge welded on one end then shaped and forge welded on the other end. |
The leaves in the leaf panel were forged very wide and thin; and were shaped hot over stakes. The collars were hand incised.
The latch was hand made as commercial locks weren’t available in a thin enough profile. The handles were fullered and then scrolled.
