10:00 AM - 12 Noon: Demonstrations

12 Noon - 1:30 PM: Lunch, Auction, Iron in the Hat

Forging with a Flypress: Brad Silberberg (Pennsylvania):  Brad Silberberg is one of the foremost proponents of the use of the fly press (hand-operated screw press) in blacksmithing today. He will show how to use this simple and versatile machine for bending, straightening, chiseling, forging, and repeat forming.

 

Power Forging: Glenn Horr (West Virginia): Glenn will demonstrate using  a hand-held air chisel to manipulate metal. He will also be demonstrating various tooling for the power hammer including open and closed die work and how to make spring dies.

 

Drawing: Paul Neal (Pennsylvania): Paul will demonstrate basic drawing, how to conceptualize your ideas, drawing thumbnail sketches, and shading your drawings. If you didn’t get to see Paul’s demonstration last year, check him out this year.

 

Basic Machining: John Ord (Ohio): John will demonstrate basic machining including how to drill a hole,  selecting speeds and feeds, band saw operation, basic milling, and basic turning. He will also be answering any machining questions you might have.

 

Heat Treatment: Patrick Nowak (Ohio): Patrick will cover heat treatment fundamentals, basic heat treating for blacksmiths, selection of tool steels, and will answer any questions you have about heat treatment.

 

There will be an auction of hand-forged items, as well as "iron in the hat"  to benefit PAABA. Also, There will be a gallery of hand-forged items and a tailgating area to buy or sell all types of rusty treasures. Nigel's metalwork collection with pieces dating back to 278 B.C. will be on display.
