JOHN RAIS (PENNSYLVANIA) - Blacksmithing since he was 18, John holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He demonstrated at the 2000 ABANA conference and was the Blacksmithing Department Head at Peters Valley. He now has his own studio in Milford, Pennsylvania. John will be demonstrating working sheet metal and forging titanium. | |
JEFF FORSTER (WEST VIRGINIA) - Jeff is a professional blacksmith, specializing in commissions and restorations at his shop in Wheeling, West Virginia. He has been featured several times in the Fabricator magazine. Jeff will be using the power hammers and doing sculptural work. | |
SHAWN SPINNEWEBER (PENNSYLVANIA) - Certified as a journeyman Tool Maker in 1995, Shawn designed, evolved and taught first year machining basic training for a large tool and die company’s apprenticeship program for six years. He developed and taught NIMS courses for Butler College and served on the NIMS national standards review committee. He will be demonstrating basic machining for blacksmiths. | |
PAUL NEAL (PENNSYLVANIA) - With a BS in art education from Edinboro (1976), Paul has taught at Washington (Pennsylvania) Middle School for 26 years. He will be discussing drawing, conceptualizing ideas, and making thumbnails. Paul has been blacksmithing for 5 years. | |
CAROL RUBLE (OHIO) - Carol has been carving wood since 1987. Self taught, she demonstrates at several Ohio shows each year. Carol will be using electric tools to demonstrate her unique style of wood carving. And, by the way, Carol’s husband Waymond is a blacksmith. | |
LARRY ALBRECHT (PENNSYLVANIA) - A blacksmith, Larry has been doing stained glass for the past 13 years. He will be demonstrating this craft which beautifully intertwines with metal work or stands on its own. | |
An auction of hand-forged items, as well as "iron in the hat" benefited PAABA. There was a gallery of hand-forged items and a tailgating area to buy or sell all types of rusty treasures. |
